Each day is an opportunity to make an indelible mark on the canvas of existence and to remind each other that we are but just leaves in the forest of existence.

If Vincent van Gogh was alive to paint a portrait of me, he would paint a hat stand. For I wear many hats! Lawyer, academic, podcaster, cyclist, art enthusiast, Jazz fanatic, honorary Liverpudlian and so on and so forth.

In it all Jehovah is the author and finisher of all that is Takunda T Gumbu!

Welcome to this part of my world with its ebbs and flows. Like the swirling eddies of the mighty Zambezi river, I will never stop.

My Story

My roots trace back to the vibrant city of Harare, where I was born and raised. My educational journey began at Borrowdale School, followed by Macheke Primary and back at Borrowdale School. These institutions laid the groundwork for my academic pursuits.

The next chapter of my life unfolded at Prince Edward School. It was there that I nurtured my intellectual curiosity and built a robust foundation for my future endeavors. This led me to the University of Namibia, where I earned my LLB (Hons).

Today, I am proud to serve as an Infrastructure, Projects, and ADR lawyer at DLA Piper Africa, Zimbabwe. Previously, I was at United Africa Group (now UAG Investments) where I advised on Renewable Energy, Real Estate and Hospitality. I’m also a founding director of e-commerce start up, Koki Delivery!

In 2024, I embarked on a new venture, founding the African Finance and Projects Professionals Initiative.

To know more about my journey and the work I do, continue reading below. Thank you for visiting my personal blog/website. I look forward to sharing more of my story with you.

Professional

I advise clients on project development, project financing, and commercial dispute resolution in various sectors, including power, land development, and banking and finance. I am available as counsel or arbitrator in arbitration proceedings. Prior to joining DLA Piper, I worked as an in-house counsel for a leading conglomerate in Namibia, where I handled complex contractual and regulatory matters in renewable energy, real estate and hospitality. I am also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators

Academic

I love to put pen to paper. I have published quite a number of academic papers on Finance, Public-Private Partnerships, Investment Law, Construction and International Arbitration.

Thought Leadership

On this website you will find some of the jolly and pensive ramblings of my mind. I also have a podcast called Two Truth’s At A Braai which I co-host with Dylan Huber.
